Offer alternative pathways to recognition (if needed)

In situations where the assessment outcome is not favourable to the applicant, provide information on the appeal process and other remedial measures to assist with recognition.

For the applicant:
  • Provide additional information on the appeal process, such as:
    • a step-by-step description of the appeal process;
    • basic information on the appeal application form;
    • critical steps/milestones, from start to finish;
    • point of contact, for further questions;
    • processing timelines;
    • fees (with a breakdown of what they cover).
    • a request for new evidence from the applicant.
  • Assist in identifying remedial measures in order to obtain recognition at a later stage, such as:
    • information on educational institutions offering similar academic programs;
    • bridging academic programs to make up for the substantial differences identified;
    • alternative forms of study;
    • undertaking a prior learning assessment and recognition (PLAR) process through:
      • an educational institution;
      • a professional regulatory authority.
    • financial-assistance opportunities (e.g. , the Government of Canada's foreign credential recognition micro loan program).
